Sri Lanka Name Squad for Pakistan T20I Series; Chameera’s Participation Subject to Fitness

Sri Lanka have announced their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan, with several domestic performers earning opportunities and fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera included subject to his fitness.

Young opening batter Sineth Jayawardena has received a call-up after an impressive run in domestic T20 cricket. The 21-year-old has scored 101 off 52 balls and 82 off 32 balls for Tamil Union Cricket Club in the past month. Jayawardena has played only one T20I for Sri Lanka, during the ongoing Asian Games, but this selection gives him an opportunity to establish himself in the national setup.

Legspinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth has been included in place of the injured Wanindu Hasaranga. Seam-bowling allrounder Chamindu Wickramasinghe and batter Sahan Arachchige have also been rewarded for their consistent performances at domestic level. Both players have previous T20I experience with Sri Lanka.

Binura Fernando returns to the squad, while Chameera has been named but will only feature if he is declared fit.

There are several notable omissions from the squad. Batter Charith Asalanka, fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka, ambidextrous spinner Tharindu Rathnayake and batting allrounder Janith Liyanage have all been left out.

The changes come as Sri Lanka look to strengthen their T20I setup following a difficult run in the format in 2026. The inclusion of several domestic performers provides the team with an opportunity to assess players who have impressed consistently away from the international stage.

Kusal Mendis will captain the side, with Kamil Mishara, Lahiru Udara and Kamindu Mendis among the other batting options. Dasun Shanaka, Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana add further all-round and bowling depth to the squad.

The three-match T20I series will be played entirely in Rawalpindi, with the opening match scheduled for October 9.
