Shadab Khan’s Blistering Knock Takes Antigua and Barbuda Falcons to CPL Summit
Shadab Khan produced a stunning late-order assault to guide Antigua and Barbuda Falcons (ABF) to a five-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), propelling the Falcons to the top of the CPL 2026 points table on Saturday night.
Chasing 166, the Falcons appeared to be in serious trouble at 92 for 5 when Shadab walked in at No. 7. The Pakistan all-rounder, however, turned the match on its head with an unbeaten 52 off just 20 balls.
Shadab combined with Kusal Perera, who remained unbeaten on 34, to put together an unbroken 76-run partnership from only 33 deliveries. Their explosive finish saw the Falcons reach the target with nine balls to spare.
TKR had 37 runs to defend from the final three overs and looked well placed to force a close finish. But Nathan Edward's 18th over changed the complexion of the match. Shadab smashed three sixes in the first four balls, taking 27 runs from the over and shifting the momentum decisively in favour of the Falcons.
With only 11 runs required from the final two overs, Shadab finished the contest in emphatic fashion, hitting Terrance Hinds for two more sixes to complete a remarkable comeback and earn the Player-of-the-Match award.
The Falcons had started their chase aggressively, with Rahkeem Cornwall taking 14 runs from the opening over. However, he was run out from the first ball of the second over while attempting a quick single.
Amir Jangoo provided some stability with 31 off 36 balls, while Evin Lewis scored 10 and Hasan Nawaz managed only one run from 10 deliveries. Moeen Ali became the fifth Falcons batter dismissed at the beginning of the 13th over, leaving the team needing 74 runs from 41 balls.
Shadab and Perera then took control of the chase, initially rebuilding before launching a spectacular assault at the death.
Earlier, TKR posted 165 for 6 after being put into bat. Colin Munro led the scoring with a brisk 46 off 33 balls, while Nicholas Pooran provided another burst of aggression with 43 from just 17 deliveries.
The rest of the TKR batting lineup struggled to maintain the momentum. Cornwall dismissed Alex Hales for 2 and Matthew Breetzke for 2, while Joshua James removed Kieron Pollard for 9 off 16 balls.
Sunil Narine, unbeaten on 19, and Hinds, unbeaten on 14, added 34 runs in an unbeaten stand from 3.5 overs to take TKR to 165. However, their late contribution ultimately proved insufficient as Shadab's extraordinary hitting powered the Falcons home.
The victory not only completed a remarkable turnaround for Antigua and Barbuda Falcons but also lifted them to No. 1 on the CPL 2026 points table.
