Nabi Four-for and Hope’s Unbeaten 56 Power Amazon Warriors to Winning Start

Guyana Amazon Warriors began their Caribbean Premier League 2026 campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Jamaica Kingsmen by six wickets after bowling them out for just 117 in Kingston on Thursday.

The comprehensive victory, achieved with 35 balls to spare, took the Amazon Warriors to the top of the CPL table, while the Kingsmen remained at the bottom after suffering their third consecutive defeat of the tournament.

Nabi Leads Bowling Attack

Amazon Warriors captain Imran Tahir chose to bowl first and was immediately rewarded as his bowlers made early inroads during the powerplay.

Khary Pierre and Shamar Joseph struck early to put Jamaica Kingsmen under pressure. Reeza Hendricks provided the only significant resistance, top-scoring with a patient 40 off 32 balls.

Hendricks and captain Rovman Powell briefly steadied the innings with a 35-run partnership for the third wicket. However, the stand consumed 24 balls and did little to improve the Kingsmen's scoring rate.

Tahir broke the partnership in the 10th over when he caught and bowled Hendricks, leaving Jamaica at 61 for 3. From there, the innings quickly collapsed.

Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi then took centre stage, claiming four wickets for 22 runs as the Kingsmen lost their remaining seven wickets for just 56 runs. Tahir and Joseph also picked up another wicket each as Jamaica were bowled out for 117 in 19.4 overs.

Hope Anchors Successful Chase

The Amazon Warriors' chase got off to a poor start when debutant Mavendra Dindyal was dismissed by Jediah Blades with the very first ball of the innings.

However, Shai Hope and Glenn Phillips quickly shifted the momentum. The pair added 42 runs from just 31 balls for the second wicket before Andre Russell struck twice in the sixth over, removing Phillips and Shimron Hetmyer.

Those wickets proved to be the Kingsmen's last meaningful success.

Hope remained composed throughout the chase, finishing unbeaten on 56 from 41 balls. He received valuable support from Nabi, who scored 19 off 15 deliveries, and Quentin Sampson, who finished unbeaten on 13 from nine balls.

The Amazon Warriors comfortably reached 118 for 4, completing the chase with five overs and five balls remaining.

The victory provides an ideal start for last season's runners-up, while Jamaica Kingsmen will need a significant turnaround after beginning the competition with three defeats from three matches.
