Gloucestershire Beat Lancashire by 105 Runs Despite Rocky Flintoff's Career-Best 65

Gloucestershire secured their second consecutive Rothesay County Championship victory after defeating Lancashire by 105 runs in a low-scoring Division Two encounter.

The result was particularly significant in the battle between the bottom two teams in Division Two. Gloucestershire moved to 82 points, while Lancashire remain on 100 points, 18 ahead of their opponents.

Lancashire began the final day on 120 for 6, requiring another 128 runs for victory. However, Gloucestershire struck almost immediately. George Balderson edged the third ball of the morning from JT Langridge to Ollie Price at second slip, bringing the visitors closer to victory.

Noman Ali briefly raised hopes of a Lancashire fightback when he struck R Sai Kishore for six into the vacant party stand. But Langridge soon had the breakthrough, trapping Ali lbw for 9.

Mitch Stanley followed shortly afterwards, offering a bat-and-pad catch to Kamran Dhariwal at silly mid-off from Sai Kishore.

With Lancashire's hopes resting on Rocky Flintoff, the young batter produced an impressive resistance. Flintoff scored a career-best 65, but his innings finally came to an end when he hit Langridge to long-off.

Langridge finished with outstanding figures of 5 for 51, securing victory for Gloucestershire in only his second first-class appearance.

The match was dominated by the bowlers, with both teams struggling to build substantial totals. Gloucestershire, however, proved more effective in the crucial moments.

Their bowlers reduced Lancashire to 40 for 5 in the first innings and 64 for 5 in the second. Their lower order also made important contributions with the bat. Daaryoush Ahmed and Sai Kishore shared a 52-run seventh-wicket partnership in the first innings, while Kamran Dhariwal and Matt Taylor added 70 for the ninth wicket in the second.

Dhariwal, making his first-class debut, played a crucial role with a valuable 66, helping Gloucestershire set Lancashire a challenging target despite the low-scoring nature of the contest.

Will Williams also played a major role for Gloucestershire, claiming 6 for 24 in Lancashire's first innings on his return to Old Trafford after moving from Lancashire to the south-west.

For Lancashire, Balderson was one of the few consistent performers. He claimed eight wickets across the match, while also contributing 38 with the bat in the first innings.

Despite Flintoff's determined 65 on the final day, Lancashire were eventually dismissed for 142, leaving Gloucestershire with a convincing 105-run victory.

Lancashire will now travel to Canterbury to face promotion-chasing Kent, while Gloucestershire return home to Bristol to take on Middlesex.
