Sunil Narine’s All-Round Brilliance Powers TKR to Seven-Wicket Win

Sunil Narine produced an outstanding all-round performance as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) ended their three-match losing streak with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Barbados Tridents at Queen’s Park Oval.

Narine first made an impact with the ball, claiming two wickets for 14 runs from his four overs as TKR’s spin-heavy attack restricted the Tridents to 127 for nine. He then delivered a match-winning performance with the bat, smashing a rapid 55 off 33 balls to guide TKR to 128 for three with 31 balls to spare.

Returning to the top of the order, Narine continued his impressive form after scoring 25 off 14 balls against St Lucia Kings in TKR’s previous match. This time, he went one better, striking six sixes in an explosive innings that marked his first T20 half-century since May 2024.

Narine’s assault was complemented by Colin Munro, who scored 37 from 26 deliveries. The pair put together a commanding 96-run opening partnership, effectively taking the contest away from the Tridents and leaving TKR with a straightforward finish.

The groundwork for the victory had been laid by TKR’s bowlers. Narine opened the bowling with a miserly one-run over and maintained the pressure throughout his spell. Usman Tariq was even more economical, returning figures of 1 for 11, while Akeal Hosein and Jyd Goolie also picked up a wicket each.

Kieron Pollard added further pressure with his medium pace, claiming two wickets for 19 runs from three overs.

Barbados Tridents struggled to find momentum against TKR’s disciplined attack. Four of their top five batters recorded strike rates below 100 despite facing at least 10 deliveries. Opener Zachary Carter was the exception, scoring 28 from 27 balls, but his innings failed to provide the acceleration the Tridents needed.

The Tridents eventually found some late momentum through captain Chris Green and Rivaldo Clarke. Green struck two sixes during his 27 off 17 balls, while Clarke hit three fours in the final two overs to remain unbeaten on 15 from just seven deliveries.

However, the late surge was not enough to give Barbados a competitive total.

With Narine starring in both innings, TKR completed a dominant chase and secured a much-needed victory. The result will provide a significant boost to the Knight Riders after three consecutive defeats, while Narine’s return to form with both bat and ball will be particularly encouraging for the side.
