Saim Ayub’s Stunning 102 Powers Jamaica Kingsmen to Third CPL Win

Saim Ayub produced a sensational batting display, smashing a 58-ball 102, to guide Jamaica Kingsmen to a 17-run victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their CPL 2026 clash in Basseterre. The win was Kingsmen’s third of the tournament and lifted them temporarily into fourth place, while Patriots remained at the bottom of the standings.

Ayub’s remarkable innings formed the backbone of Kingsmen’s imposing 182 for 7 after they were asked to bat first. Although Patriots made a strong attempt to chase down the target, a slow start and a late surge from Jason Holder and Dasun Shanaka ultimately left them short.

Patriots’ chase got off to a disastrous start. Naseem Shah struck with the first ball of the innings to dismiss Keacy Carty before removing Maaz Sadaqat in his next over. With Kirk McKenzie and Usman Khan also failing to make an impact, Patriots were reduced to 42 for 3 inside the powerplay.

Andre Fletcher, however, provided a much-needed counterattack. After Mikyle Louis fell in the 11th over with the score on 64, Fletcher accelerated and put together a 48-run partnership with Holder from just 29 balls.

Fletcher eventually fell for a brisk 55 off 38 balls, dismissed by Ayub, who then made an impact with the ball as well. Holder and Shanaka continued the fight, adding 38 from only 21 deliveries.

The contest effectively slipped away from Patriots when Holder was dismissed with 33 runs still required from the final eight balls. Shanaka refused to surrender, smashing another 19 runs from his next seven deliveries to finish unbeaten on 35 off 18 balls. His late assault, however, could not prevent Patriots from falling short.

Earlier, Kingsmen had also endured a shaky start. Naseem Shah's early strikes left them struggling, while the middle order failed to build momentum. Kingsmen nevertheless reached 42 in the powerplay, setting the stage for Ayub to take control.

The Pakistan batter shifted gears after the fielding restrictions were lifted. He had reached 37 from 25 balls when Rovman Powell joined him, and the pair transformed the innings with an explosive 72-run partnership from just 43 deliveries.

Powell contributed 21 from 17 balls, but Ayub was the dominant force, scoring 51 runs from 26 balls during the partnership. His acceleration provided Kingsmen with the platform they needed for a commanding total.

Ayub continued his assault after Powell’s departure and brought up his century from just 57 balls. He became the second centurion of CPL 2026, following Tim Seifert’s unbeaten 105 from 61 balls in the previous match.

Keemo Paul provided valuable support late in the innings, scoring an unbeaten 25 from 13 balls as Kingsmen finished on 182 for 7.

Patriots' chase was ultimately undermined by a lack of urgency in the middle overs. Johnson Charles, Kevin Wickham and Louis collectively consumed 34 deliveries for only 24 runs, leaving too much work for the lower order.

Despite the late resistance from Fletcher, Holder and Shanaka, Patriots could not make up for the lost momentum.

For Kingsmen, the victory was largely built around Ayub’s outstanding all-round contribution. His 102 with the bat, followed by Fletcher’s crucial wicket, proved decisive as Jamaica secured two valuable points and their third win of the CPL 2026 campaign.
