Namibia Opt to Bowl Against South Africa as Three Players Make ODI Debuts

Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl first against South Africa in the opening ODI between the two western neighbours, with the Proteas handing debuts to three players in the 50-over format.

South Africa have named Jordan Hermann, Connor Esterhuizen and allrounder Duan Jansen in their playing XI for their first-ever ODI meeting with Namibia.

With Namibia choosing to bowl, openers Hermann and Esterhuizen will walk out first for South Africa. The hosts will look to exploit any early moisture and movement from the surface.

Namibia have strengthened their pace attack with young seamers Jack Brassell and Max Heingo, who will join experienced quick Ruben TrumpelmannBernard Scholtz, Jan Balt and captain Gerhard Erasmus will provide the spin options.

Namibia have also made a notable adjustment to their batting order. After Jan Frylinck and Louren Steenkamp impressed at the top during the recent T20I tri-series, the pair have been moved down to No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Malan Kruger and Alexander Busing-Volschenk will instead open the innings, with Erasmus set to bat at No. 5.

South Africa have selected a significantly different batting line-up from their regular ODI combination. The XI includes both Hermann brothers, Jordan and Rubin, along with exciting young batter Dewald Brevis at No. 4.

Tony de Zorzi and Jason Smith are also part of the new-look batting unit, while Corbin Bosch has been preferred over his brother Eathan. That decision could still result in a family appearance later in the series.

The Proteas have also opted for two spin options, with stand-in captain Bjorn Fortuin joined by offspinner Prenelan Subrayen. Young fast bowler Kwena Maphaka completes the South African XI.
