Hetmyer’s Blistering 111* Keeps Guyana Amazon Warriors Unbeaten in CPL 2026

Shimron Hetmyer produced a breathtaking unbeaten century as Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Trinbago Knight Riders by nine runs via the DLS method in a rain-affected CPL 2026 clash in Port of Spain.

Hetmyer smashed an extraordinary 111 not out from just 43 balls, powering Amazon Warriors to 185 for 5 in their allotted 16 overs. Trinbago Knight Riders were set a revised target of 182 but could manage only 172 for 7, handing Guyana their fourth consecutive victory of the tournament.

The win kept Amazon Warriors unbeaten and lifted them to second place in the CPL points table. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons remain at the top with nine points, while Trinbago Knight Riders sit fifth after suffering their fifth defeat in seven matches.

Hetmyer Turns the Game on Its Head

With the match reduced to 16 overs per side, Hetmyer launched an extraordinary assault after arriving at the crease with Amazon Warriors struggling at 19 for 2.

The left-hander reached his half-century from just 27 balls before accelerating further to bring up his century in only 40 balls. He finished with eight fours and nine sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 258.13.

Hetmyer’s brutal hitting transformed the innings, particularly during the closing stages. He was given excellent support by Romario Shepherd, who smashed 27 from seven balls, including two fours and three sixes.

The pair added the finishing touches to a remarkable late surge, with Amazon Warriors scoring 94 runs in the final five overs to post a formidable 185 for 5.

Pooran and Hales Lead TKR Fightback

Trinbago Knight Riders began their chase aggressively, with captain Nicholas Pooran and opener Alex Hales putting the Amazon Warriors under immediate pressure.

Pooran blasted 43 from just 16 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes, while Hales continued the assault with a rapid 55 off 24 deliveries.

However, the chase suffered a dramatic collapse in the middle overs.

Pooran was dismissed at the start of the seventh over, and just three balls later Mohammad Nabi trapped Jyd Goolie lbw for a duck. Imran Tahir then struck in the following over, leaving TKR reeling at 68 for 5.

The required run rate had climbed beyond 12 runs an over, putting enormous pressure on the Knight Riders.

Hales’ Late Charge Falls Short

Akeal Hosein briefly helped Hales rebuild the innings and push the score beyond 100. Hosein, however, fell to a return catch off Khary Pierre.

Hales continued to attack, hitting several sixes to bring the equation down to 40 runs from the final 12 balls.

But Amazon Warriors struck at a crucial moment when Shamar Joseph produced a blistering 144.1 kmph yorker to dismiss Hales and effectively end TKR’s hopes of completing the chase.

The Knight Riders managed 30 runs from the final two overs, but it was not enough as they finished on 172 for 7, nine runs short of the revised target.

Nabi and Phillips Make Key Contributions

Mohammad Nabi was the standout bowler for Amazon Warriors, finishing with 3 for 20 from three overs and playing a crucial role in restricting the Knight Riders during the middle overs.

One of the fielding highlights came from Glenn Phillips, who produced a stunning one-handed catch at deep midwicket despite initially losing sight of the ball. His spectacular effort dismissed Sunil Narine for just one.

In the end, however, the match belonged to Hetmyer. His extraordinary 111 not out not only rescued Amazon Warriors from early trouble but also provided the foundation for another victory that keeps them unbeaten in CPL 2026.
